At its Connect developer conference in New York, Microsoft announced a number of new additions and updates to its development tools. The new tools include Visual Studio Dev Essentials, a free offering that bundles together Visual Studio Community, Visual Studio Code, Visual Studio Team Services and several training opportunities from partners.
In addition, Microsoft said it will begin selling subscriptions to Visual Studio Professional and Enterprise without requiring an MSDN subscription. The Professional version will cost $45 per month or $539 per year, and Enterprise will be $250 per month or $2,9999 per year.
The company also unveiled its new Visual Studio Marketplace, which will provide access to free and paid extensions for Visual Studio. It changed the name of Visual Studio Online to Visual Studio Team Services, and it released an Android emulator for OS X and release candidates for .NET Core 5 and ASP.NET.5. Finally, it launched a beta version of its open source Visual Studio Code text editor.
