According to a new report from app marketing and optimization firm Sensor Tower, it makes the most sense to release most apps on the weekend, because that’s when the most usage, purchases and downloads occur. The researchers came to that conclusion after analyzing daily download and revenue data for iOS apps.
However, apps in a few categories from the App Store defied the usual trend. Not surprisingly, business apps do better Monday through Friday. Downloads were also high during the week for finance apps, although purchases and usage were still higher on weekends. Medical apps saw peak downloads on Sunday but high revenue on Wednesday and Thursday.
Apple allows developers to set a future release date when they submit apps to the App Store, and it may be a good idea for publishers to time their releases for peak usage and download times.
