Xamarin Tool Enables iOS Development in Visual Studio

.NET developers who use Microsoft’s Visual Studio IDE now have a new tool that can allow them to develop iOS apps. The 2.0 version of the Xamarin development platform includes a Xamarin.iOS for Visual Studio feature that allows them to build iPhone and iPad apps in C# from a Windows system (although they do need a Mac somewhere on the network).

“The chief strength of the Xamarin approach is that it leverages a lightly tapped resource in the mobile space: .Net developers,” said Jeffrey Hammond from Forrester Research. “We see more C# and Java devs in enterprise IT than any other programming language. Xamarin gives at least one of these developer pools a way forward into the mobile-first age.”

Xamarin already supported Android for mobile development.
