Beware of RegClean With Visual InterDev 6

RegClean is a free utility from Microsoft that cleans up your system registry. However, some users have discovered that at least one version cleans too deeply and damages their Visual InterDev 6 installation. A symptom of a problem is getting this message when you open a page: “An object failed to load. The object will be displayed as text.” RegClean may assume that a registry key is empty and safe to delete. If you encounter the error, check to see if you have this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREClassesCLSID{43806ea0-c364-11d0-b75f-0000f81e081d}Control

You may need to install Microsoft’s Java Virtual Machine to get VID 6 working again. The standard warning about the registry applies: always create a backup since a corrupted registry may render your computer inoperable.
