Stop Visual InterDev and Internet Explorer From Dialing Out

Many users of Visual InterDev 6 complain about a dialogue box that pops up while they work offline. Even when using localhost and the internal IP address http://127.0.0.1/ the computer decides that it needs to make a connection to the Internet. It starts a modem dialing sequence that you have to interrupt.

You can prevent this annoyance by changing a setting in Internet Explorer. Here’s what to do in IE5. From the Tools menu, click Internet Options, then click the Connections tab. In the Dial-up Settings group box, click the Never dial a connection option button and click OK. If you’re still using IE4, go to the View menu, Internet Options, and the Connection tab. Change from modem to LAN.
