HP to Split into Two Companies

After The Wall Street Journal reported that HP planned to break itself into two separate companies, the company has confirmed the rumors. By the end of its 2015 fiscal year, HP expects to split into Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, which will focus on business products and services, and HP Inc., which will offer PCs and printers. Meg Whitman will serve as chairman of HP Inc. and CEO of Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, while Patricia Russo will be chairman for Hewlett-Packard Enterprise and Dion Weisler will become the CEO of HP Inc.

HP said that the split will allow the company to invest in key areas. For example, HP Inc. will likely research 3D printing, and the enterprise business will focus on Moonshot servers, 3PAR storage and the Helion cloud computing service.
