Apple has long been known to use Amazon Web Services (AWS) to host its iCloud service, but now sources tell CRN that the company quietly began also using Google Cloud Platform late last year. The sources say that Apple is spending between $400 million and $600 million on Google’s cloud computing services. And a white paper published in 2014 acknowledged that Apple also uses Microsoft Azure for some cloud services, meaning that the company is using all three of the top cloud vendors.
However, a separate report from Recode says that Apple could sever its relationship with all three cloud providers. It is said to be working on a project codenamed “McQueen” to build its own private cloud.
