The White House and the U.S. Department of Commerce have announced a new application development competition aimed at creating apps that will spur business growth. Developers could win up to $10,000 for creating an innovative Web, PC, or mobile app that uses at least one dataset supplied by the Commerce Department. Judges for the contest include U.S. CIO Steven VanRoekel, U.S. Secretary of Commerce John Bryson, Google’s Vint Cerf, former U.S. CIO Vivek Kundra and Facebook’s Sheryl Sandberg.
Developers must submit entries for the contest by April 30. The judges will evaluate the submissions based on how well they help businesses learn about and evaluate opportunities, access useful services and data, acquire funding, and grow.
