Microsoft releases fix for Windows Server 2025 issues

Microsoft has released a warning about potential problems with the DHCP Server service on Windows Server systems after installing the June 2025 security updates. The affected updates include KB5061010 for Windows Server 2016, KB5060531 for Windows Server 2019, KB5060526 for Windows Server 2022, and KB5060842 for Windows Server 2025. After installing these updates, some Windows Server systems have experienced issues with the DHCP Server service, which may freeze or intermittently stop.

This can cause problems for devices attempting to renew their IP addresses, resulting in the loss of network connections or an inability to access the internet. Microsoft has stated, “The DHCP Server service might intermittently stop responding after installing this security update.

Fix issued for DHCP server issues

This issue affects IP renewal for clients.”

The company is currently working on a fix for the problem and expects to release it soon. In the meantime, removing the update and restarting the server has been found to temporarily restore standard DHCP service functionality. This DHCP issue follows several other recent fixes from Microsoft, including resolving problems with domain controllers losing connectivity after restarts and earlier troubles with authentication and virtual machines.

For administrators unable to immediately install the fix once it becomes available, Microsoft suggests a workaround: manually restarting the network adapter on affected servers using the PowerShell command `Restart-NetAdapter *` after each reboot, until the update is installed. Microsoft continues to monitor the situation and provide updates and support to ensure stability and security for its Windows Server products. Administrators are advised to stay informed about further developments and apply the fix as soon as it becomes available to mitigate any disruptions caused by this DHCP Server service issue.
