Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 unveils Google AI features

Google is bringing new AI features to Chromebooks, with a focus on newer, more powerful models. Users of modern Chromebooks with at least 8GB RAM and up-to-date CPUs will soon experience advanced features like an expanded Google Lens, allowing visual searches on any area of the screen, text capture capabilities, and deeper integration with Google Calendar and Docs. The Quick Insert key, initially designed for inserting photos or emojis, can now generate new images on demand using AI.

However, these cloud-based AI features are restricted to powerful Chromebooks only. The Help Me Read feature can summarize lengthy documents and webpages, turning dense text into something more readable. A new summarization option facilitates this transformation in just a few clicks.

Google has also announced an exclusive AI trial for Chromebook Plus devices.

Google AI enhances Lenovo Chromebook

Purchasing these premium Chromebooks earns users a 12-month free trial of the Google AI Pro plan, offering benefits such as 2TB of cloud storage and expanded access to Pro models.

NotebookLM is also gaining prominence with placement on the Chrome OS shelf. In collaboration with Lenovo, Google has equipped the new Chromebook Plus 14 with extra AI features. This device, powered by the MediaTek Kompanio Ultra processor, boasts an NPU capable of 50 TOPS of AI throughput, allowing for robust on-device AI performance.

The Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 introduces on-device AI enhancements like Smart Grouping, which organizes open tabs and documents into logical groups. The Chrome OS Gallery app now features AI-driven photo editing capabilities, enabling users to remove backgrounds and create stickers without cloud interference. As more Chromebooks are equipped with powerful NPUs, these on-device AI features could become standard.
