Several vendors are now offering tools that allow enterprises to create their own private apps stores, and they’re reporting increased interest in those tools. Sean Ginevan of MobileIron says, “One of the things important in highly vertical markets is the identity of the users.” He says that enterprises, particularly those in industries like finance and healthcare, are turning to private app stores because the management tools for those stores give the companies control over who uses the apps on which devices.
Robin Bordoli of Jive Software says that private app stores also improve software adoption rates. “When IT build their own apps, they get a 70 percent uptake failure rate. Employees are increasingly going outside the enterprise to find apps that work. Seventy percent of employees use unsanctioned cloud apps. They’re having to deal with that,” he says.
