Amazon Moves to Emulate Apple With Kindle Apps

While Amazon originally intended the Kindle to be only an eReader, the company will open an app store for the device sometime later this year. Analysts speculate that the move could be a response to Apple’s successful App Store and the expected announcement of an Apple tablet that could be seen as a competitor to the Kindle.

Developers who choose to create the new apps will take home 70 percent of any profits, while Amazon takes 30 percent.
