Report: Programming Languages and Frameworks Undergoing a ‘Seismic Shift’

Agile software development tool vendor and consultancy ThoughtWorks has published a new “radar report” that attempts to identify trends in the IT industry. The report states that a “seismic shift in programming languages” is currently underway, and it encourages enterprises to consider utilizing functional hybrids like Clojure and Scala.

The report also identifies “significant shifts” in mobile development, as a growing number of enterprises see the need to adopt a “mobile first” application development strategy. In addition, it notes trends toward simpler application architecture, reproducible environments, cloud computing and NoSQL.

“There are a lot of industry buzzwords out there, and it can be hard to keep up with the latest trends and innovations in software development,” said Neal Ford from ThoughtWorks. “To help our customers and the industry keep apace, our Technology Advisory Board meets twice a year to debate the latest trends and share their thoughts on a host of technologies. Their conclusions and recommendations are reflected in the latest Technology Radar.”
