How To Clear Cookies on iPhone
Clearing cookies on your iPhone fixes login issues, removes tracking data, and frees up storage. Cookies are small files websites store on your device to remember preferences and sessions. Here’s how to clear them from Safari, Chrome, and every browser on your iPhone in 2026.
How To Clear Cookies in Safari on iPhone
Safari is the default browser on iPhone, and clearing its cookies is done through the Settings app:
Method 1: Clear All Safari Cookies and Data
- Open Settings on your iPhone
- Scroll down and tap Safari
- Tap "Clear History and Website Data"
- Choose a time range: Last hour, Today, Today and yesterday, or All history
- Tap "Clear History" to confirm
This removes all cookies, browsing history, and cached data from Safari. You’ll be logged out of all websites.
Method 2: Clear Cookies Without Deleting History
If you want to keep your browsing history but remove only cookies:
- Open Settings → Safari
- Scroll down and tap "Advanced"
- Tap "Website Data"
- Wait for the list to load (this shows every site with stored cookies)
- Tap "Remove All Website Data" at the bottom
- Confirm by tapping "Remove Now"
Method 3: Clear Cookies for a Specific Website
- Go to Settings → Safari → Advanced → Website Data
- Use the search bar at the top to find a specific website
- Swipe left on the site name
- Tap "Delete"
This is useful when you have a problem with one site but don’t want to clear everything.

What Happens When You Clear Cookies on iPhone?
When you clear cookies:
- You’ll be logged out of all websites (you’ll need to re-enter usernames and passwords)
- Website preferences reset — dark mode settings, language preferences, and shopping carts will be cleared
- Tracking cookies are removed — advertisers can no longer track your previous browsing
- Some websites may load slower initially as they rebuild their cookie data
- Your saved passwords in iCloud Keychain are NOT deleted — only the session cookies are removed
How To Block Cookies on iPhone
To prevent cookies from being saved in the future:
Safari:
- Go to Settings → Safari
- Scroll to the "Privacy & Security" section
- Toggle on "Block All Cookies"
Note: Blocking all cookies may break some websites that require cookies to function (online banking, shopping carts, etc.).
Better Alternative — Block Only Third-Party Cookies:
Safari on iOS 18 blocks third-party cookies by default through its Intelligent Tracking Prevention feature. This blocks tracking cookies while allowing necessary first-party cookies to function normally.
To verify this is enabled:
- Go to Settings → Safari
- Make sure "Prevent Cross-Site Tracking" is toggled on
How Often Should You Clear Cookies on iPhone?
For most users, clearing cookies once a month is sufficient. Clear them immediately if you’re experiencing login problems on a specific website, seeing outdated content, or want to remove tracking data after browsing sensitive topics.
Troubleshooting: Can’t Clear Cookies on iPhone
If you can’t clear cookies:
- Check Screen Time restrictions: Go to Settings → Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions → Content Restrictions → Web Content. If set to "Limit Adult Websites" or "Allowed Websites Only," this can prevent clearing Safari data.
- Restart your iPhone: Hold the side button + volume down, slide to power off, wait 30 seconds, turn back on
- Update iOS: Go to Settings → General → Software Update. Cookie clearing bugs are sometimes fixed in iOS updates.
- Try a different method: If "Clear History and Website Data" is grayed out, try the Advanced → Website Data method instead
