F# Makes Huge Gains in Popularity

Tiobe has updated its programming language popularity chart once again, and this month the big story is F#. A year ago, the Microsoft-backed functional language was all the way down at #69 in Tiobe’s rankings, but it has now climbed to #12. The top ten on the list remained the same as last month: C, Java, Objective-C, C++, C#, PHP, (Visual) Basic, Python, JavaScript and Visual Basic .NET.

The PyPL Popularity of Programming Language index, which uses a different methodology, ranked the top ten as follows: Java, PHP, Python, C#, C++ , C, JavaScript, Objective-C, Ruby and Visual Basic.
