Congressman Proposes APPS Act

Proposed legislation would impact mobile development privacy practices.

U.S. Representative Hank Johnson (D, GA) has proposed a new piece of legislation called The Application Privacy, Protection, and Security (APPS) Act of 2013. The bill would require app developers to tell users what data they collect, how they use it, how they store it and how they share it. In addition, it would require mobile development firms to delete user data at the user's request. The Federal Trade Commission would have authority to enforce the measure.

The bill has not yet been officially introduced before Congress. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) is also working on a list of proposed mobile privacy recommendations.
