Groq Inc., an artificial intelligence startup, has partnered with oil producer Aramco to build a giant data center in Saudi Arabia. The project aims to create a hub for companies running AI systems across the Middle East, Africa, and India. The partnership is expected to bolster Saudi Arabia’s ambitions to become a leader in AI technology in the region.
Groq’s innovative technology and Aramco’s vast resources and influence make this collaboration a significant step forward in the development of advanced technological infrastructure in the region. By establishing this data center, Groq and Aramco aim to attract AI-driven companies and provide a state-of-the-art facility that enables cutting-edge research, development, and deployment of AI systems. This initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader Vision 2030 plan to diversify its economy away from oil dependency and invest in high-tech industries.
The facility will be one of the largest of its kind and is anticipated to drive substantial growth in the regional AI market. The collaboration between Groq and Aramco signifies a substantial commitment to technological innovation and economic diversification in the Middle East. Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.
(QCOM) recently announced a strategic collaboration with Aramco to implement generative AI-powered Internet of Things (IoT) solutions aimed at accelerating digital transformation initiatives in Saudi Arabia. These cutting-edge solutions are designed to enhance efficiency, safety, and sustainability in industrial operations. One key offering is the Rapid Response Solution, which utilizes on-device AI and computer vision to improve situational awareness and minimize operational disruptions.
This system includes autonomous AI drones featuring generative AI flight control for effective incident response. Additionally, the Factory Monitoring Solution provides real-time insights and predictive analytics to boost operational efficiency and safety through advanced video surveillance. By leveraging multimodal inputs and hybrid AI, the Equipment Maintenance Solution streamlines maintenance processes.
It employs AI native worker assist technology to predict and prevent equipment failures, optimizing performance while lowering maintenance costs and reducing downtime. QCOM and Aramco have also introduced the world’s first processors with native support for 5G in the 450 MHz spectrum. The Qualcomm QCS8550 and QCS6490 processors are designed to offer enhanced 5G connectivity with robust coverage in this band.
AI powers Saudi Arabia’s digital innovation
Once deployed, the network infrastructure will effortlessly connect intelligent edge devices such as industrial handhelds, ruggedized smartphones, and other essential IoT equipment. Qualcomm’s 5G modem-to-radio frequency solutions will be used to enhance the performance of these devices.
This collaboration emphasizes boosting connectivity and efficiency in industrial sectors through AI native technologies and advanced 5G. It represents a significant milestone in Saudi Arabia’s digital transformation journey. Aramco Digital, the digital and technology subsidiary of Aramco, has formed a strategic partnership to drive the adoption of generative AI and other cutting-edge technologies within its business.
Following closely behind consumer goods giant Unilever selecting Accenture as its global partner for generative AI roll-outs, Aramco, one of the Middle East’s biggest companies, has made a similar announcement. By revenue, oil and chemicals giant Aramco stands among the world’s largest companies. Aramco Digital is tasked with driving digital transformation and technological innovation within its business and externally.
This partnership underscores Aramco Digital’s ambition to lead in generative AI, often described as the “most transformative technology” since the industrial revolution. “Generative AI will continue to reshape business sectors. We are partnering to ensure we are not only prepared for the gen AI transformation but are well-positioned to lead it,” said Tareq Amine, CEO of Aramco Digital.
“We are excited to work alongside them to bring our deep capabilities and digital solutions in Generative AI learning to market, serving the Kingdom’s workforce and helping advance us toward achieving Vision 2030.”
At the core of the partnership is building an AI-ready workforce. Aramco Digital will adopt the LearnVantage AI-native platform, which uses a generative AI recommendation engine to curate learning content, assess skill gaps, and offer personalized learning to ensure individuals gain the necessary skills to succeed. The LearnVantage platform will equip Aramco’s entire workforce with foundational and specialized AI skills, including the responsible use of AI.
Alongside the platform and an AI curriculum, there will be access to a network of trainers and mentors fluent in Arabic and English, encompassing industry and academic leaders. The two companies will further collaborate to bring AI capabilities to other organizations in the Kingdom, supporting the mission to address the evolving digital talent requirements across industries and contribute to Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. Omar Boulos, CEO in the Middle East, emphasized: “We are passionate about helping organizations in Saudi Arabia become talent creators and contributing our extensive knowledge and capabilities to transform the way people learn.
Our collaboration with Aramco Digital marks a significant step toward strengthening the Kingdom’s workforce with future-ready skills.”
Kishore Durg, Global Lead, added: “Powered by its cloud-based and AI-native platform, LearnVantage will play a critical role in accelerating digital skilling and ensuring learning effectiveness. We are excited to partner with Aramco Digital to deliver innovative solutions and help the Kingdom forge future-ready workforces.”
This latest project continues a longstanding relationship between Aramco and Accenture, reinforcing their shared commitment to digital transformation and workforce development in Saudi Arabia.
