Apple fans are eagerly awaiting the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025, set to take place from June 9 to June 13. The event will kick off with a keynote address on Monday, June 9 at 1 p.m. ET at Apple Park in Cupertino, California. During the keynote, Apple is expected to unveil its latest software updates for a range of products, including the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro.

Rumors suggest that the company will introduce a new naming convention for its operating systems, with each one being renumbered to match the year it will mostly be updated: 2026. This means that instead of iOS 19, we’ll see iOS 26, alongside watchOS 26, macOS 26, iPadOS 26, and tvOS 26. The Vision Pro will also see a significant jump, moving from visionOS 2 to visionOS 26.

This change is said to emphasize unification and make the naming less confusing for developers and consumers. One of the most anticipated updates is the alleged name of the next macOS iteration, macOS 26. According to reports, it will be named macOS Tahoe, after California’s scenic Lake Tahoe.

Apple’s latest software unveiling

This continues Apple’s tradition of naming its operating systems after notable California landmarks. iOS 26, the new software for the iPhone, is expected to bring a major design overhaul.

The internal codename for the software is Solarium, suggesting a light and translucent look, possibly taking design cues from the Vision Pro. In addition to the design update, iOS 26 is set to introduce several key upgrades, including an AI-powered battery management setup to extend device battery life between charges. Apple also plans to open its Apple Intelligence models to developers, allowing them to integrate the technology into their own apps.

Other expected features include new iPad productivity capabilities, an eye-scrolling option for the Vision Pro, and a revamped Health app. The WWDC keynote will be streamed live on Apple TV, Apple’s YouTube page, and on the official Apple website. Following the keynote, Apple has planned over 100 technical sessions, group and individual lab sessions for developers, and will host 50 winners of the Swift Student Challenge at its headquarters in Silicon Valley.

Developer betas of the new software are expected to arrive soon after the announcement, with the first public beta anticipated in July and a general release in September.
