Apple today previewed macOS Tahoe 26, the next major release of its desktop operating system. The update introduces a stunning new design and powerful capabilities that enable users to get even more done. The new design showcases refined elements in the Home Screen layout, Control Center, Lock Screen, and Apple Music interface.

Iconic elements of macOS will feel more expressive, delightful, and personal while remaining instantly familiar.
Users can further personalize the experience with an updated Control Center and new color options for folders, app icons, and widgets. Continuity gets even better with the Phone app arriving on Mac.

Users can access familiar features from iPhone, including Recents, Contacts, and Voicemails, as well as new ones like Call Screening and Hold Assist. Live Activities from iPhone also come to Mac, helping users stay informed about real-time events directly on their desktops. Spotlight receives its biggest update yet, allowing users to directly execute hundreds of actions, such as sending an email or creating a note.
This streamlines the workflow and makes it easier to locate content more quickly. macOS Tahoe introduces brand-new capabilities powered by Apple Intelligence.

macOS Tahoe 26 design highlights
In Messages, Live Translation can automatically translate text as users type, facilitating cross-language communication. This feature also extends to FaceTime and phone calls. Users can create more powerful shortcuts with intelligent actions, including summarizing text and generating images.
Apple Intelligence models can now be integrated into shortcuts, helping automate complex tasks while maintaining privacy. The update allows users to create and customize Genmoji with personal attributes and animations. Image Playground supports new styles like oil painting or vector art.
Apple Intelligence can scan emails, websites, notes, and more to identify and categorize relevant action items, making Reminders more manageable and actionable. Additional features include Safari enhancements, Messages improvements, expanded journaling, and enhanced accessibility. The new updates signify a bold step forward for macOS, merging enhanced productivity tools with advanced privacy features.
