Elon Musk has announced that he will move the headquarters of his companies SpaceX and X from California to Texas. Musk made the decision in response to a new California law signed by Governor Gavin Newsom. The law prohibits school districts from requiring parents to be notified if a child wishes to change their gender identification.

In a series of posts on X, Musk called the law “the final straw.” He said that this law, along with others previously enacted, has made it untenable for him to continue operating his companies in California. SpaceX’s headquarters will relocate from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, Texas. Starbase is a company town being constructed in the southern part of the state.

In February, SpaceX filed to move its business incorporation location from Delaware to Texas. Musk has frequently expressed his dissatisfaction with Californian policies and governance. He has hinted at potential relocations over the past few years.

In 2021, Musk had already shifted the corporate headquarters of his automaker Tesla from Palo Alto, California, to Austin. Representatives from X, SpaceX, and Governor Newsom’s office have been contacted for comments on the relocations.
