Seven years after launch, Fallout 76 is finally getting one of its most requested features: fishing. The game’s developer, Bethesda Studios, has listened to the community and added fishing as part of a recent update on the Public Test Server (PTS). When Fallout 76 first launched, it faced many negative reviews due to bugs, server problems, and a lack of polish.
Over the years, Bethesda worked hard to improve the game by adding new content and features. However, players still criticized the absence of fishing, which is common in open-world RPGs. The latest update introduces a new “Fisherman’s Rest” location in the Mire region.
Here, players will meet three new characters: Captain Raymond Clark, The Fisherman, and Linda-Lee, a giant hermit crab that lives in Captain Clark’s old fishing boat. To start fishing, players must complete the “Casting Off” quest line.
Fishing finally added to Fallout 76
This will give them their first Fishing Rod, which they can use in any nearby body of water. The game’s mantra is: “If I can swim, then I can fish.”
Fishing in Fallout 76 is not a simple “fish and forget” system. Players can upgrade their fishing rods, and weather conditions affect the types of fish available.
Players can also display trophy fish as decorations in their C.A.M.P. bases. Fishing adds depth and engagement to the game for both new and veteran players. In addition to fishing, Bethesda has reworked the limb-crippling mechanics and rebalanced many perks.
These changes aim to polish the gameplay further. The PTS server is currently available to Fallout 76 players on Steam. This allows them to experience the new fishing update firsthand before it officially launches in the game.
