Fitbit is preparing to launch a new feature called Sleep Lab, which aims to help users find their ideal bedtime and wake times. The feature was discovered in the code of the latest Fitbit for Android app and has not been officially announced by the company. Sleep Lab will use a combination of user input and sleep data to create personalized sleep schedules.

Users will be asked to answer questions about how they feel at different times of the day through Morning, Midday, and Evening surveys. The midday survey will focus on energy levels. Fitbit will analyze the responses from these surveys, along with sleep data collected by the device, to determine the amount of sleep needed each night.

Based on this analysis, users will receive personalized bedtime and wake time recommendations, as well as reminders and suggestions for maintaining consistent sleep patterns.

For example, users may receive a reminder one hour before their scheduled bedtime, with a suggestion to use Android’s Digital Wellbeing Bedtime mode.

Fitbit will also track metrics like sleep debt, which indicates the sleep users have missed relative to their needs. The app will provide explanations on how these figures are calculated and will suggest adjustments to alarm settings accordingly. Fitbit recommends that users wear their devices for at least five days to obtain more accurate sleep need and sleep debt data.

Currently, the Sleep Lab feature is not yet live in the app but is visible in the 4.37 version of Fitbit for Android. To check for availability, users can look for the Fitbit Labs option in the account menu. The new Sleep Lab feature is expected to turn Fitbit devices into some of the best sleep trackers available, providing a comprehensive and user-friendly sleep-tracking solution without the need for additional gadgets like smart rings.

While the release date has not been announced, the presence of the feature in the app’s code suggests that it could be coming soon.
