FromSoftware has announced that global sales of its critically acclaimed game, Elden Ring, have topped 30 million units. This milestone comes just over three years after the game’s February 2022 launch. Elden Ring received multiple Game of the Year awards upon release.
The game’s success can be attributed to its combination of the perfected Soulslike formula in an open world setting, coupled with worldbuilding by renowned author G. R. R. Martin.
Fans were further delighted with the release of Shadow of the Erdtree, a major DLC expansion last year, which has been well-received. Looking towards the future, FromSoftware has confirmed that more Elden Ring content is on the way, though it will take on a new form. The cooperative multiplayer spin-off, Nightreign, is set to launch soon, with the official PC system requirements recently released.

Additionally, FromSoftware is working on a brand-new IP called The Duskbloods, which will be exclusive to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Despite branching into new IPs, the studio reassured fans that they are not abandoning the single-player experiences that have contributed to their acclaim.
In a message shared on the official Elden Ring Twitter account, FromSoftware expressed their gratitude: “Dearest Tarnished, we are profoundly thankful for your lasting devotion. May your path be forever guided by the Grace of Gold.”
The figure represents copies shipped globally. This milestone comes in context with the entire Souls series, which had sold 37 million units outside of Japan by March 2024, according to publisher Bandai Namco.
With Elden Ring being a standalone title, it’s impressive to see its sales figures approaching those of the entire trilogy. The game’s success is set to continue, especially with the upcoming release of the Switch 2. Elden Ring is one of the highly anticipated titles for the new platform, which could attract a new wave of Nintendo fans to explore the Lands Between.
