Samsung is rolling out a new AI shopping platform to its Galaxy range of phones. Developed by Glance AI, a subsidiary of mobile advertising company InMobi, the “Generative AI shopping platform” is set to debut on Samsung Galaxy S22, S23, S24, and S25-series phones in the US. Glance AI’s platform includes a standalone app and an optional lock screen component.

It allows users to upload a photo of themselves and see AI-generated images of them wearing various outfits. With a simple tap, users can purchase any displayed clothing items. The adoption of the app is fully opt-in, which means users have to choose to download and activate it.

Despite this, the implementation signals a broader push by advertisers to embed AI-driven shopping experiences into consumer technology. While the app is currently ad-free in the US, it could potentially feature ads depending on regional differences.

InMobi, the parent company, has had success with similar integrations in markets like India, where its platform also provides news updates and sports scores. It remains to be seen how US consumers will react to this new feature, especially given concerns around privacy and ad intrusiveness. The rollout of Glance AI’s shopping platform is expected to achieve full coverage within 30 days.

Samsung users will likely receive a push notification prompting them to download the application from the Galaxy Store. However, the move has not been welcomed by all. I do not, and I can’t emphasize this enough, ever want to see an ad on my lock screen,” commented one smartphone reviewer.

This sentiment echoes a broader apprehension about the increasing integration of commercial content into personal devices. As advertisers continue to leverage AI to market products more effectively, users may need to stay vigilant about maintaining control over their device experiences. For now, the decision to engage with Glance AI’s shopping platform remains firmly in the hands of the consumers.
