Google announced a new camera-sharing feature for its AI-powered “Live” mode at its I/O developer conference today. This feature allows users to search and interact with anything their camera captures in real-time. The camera-sharing feature will be integrated into Google Search as part of its expanded AI Mode.

It is also coming to iOS, having been available on Android for around a month.

By tapping the “Live” icon, users can share their camera feed with Search and ask direct questions about whatever is in front of them. For instance, users can ask for recipe suggestions based on the ingredients in their fridge.

Live Search is set to arrive later this summer and will initially be available in beta to Labs testers.

It is part of several upcoming AI Mode features, including research-based Deep Search, an AI agent capable of performing web actions on users’ behalf, and various new shopping tools. In addition to being available on Android, iOS is being updated with the camera-sharing feature.

Users will also have the option to interact with what’s on their screen rather than just what the camera captures. Initially planned as an exclusive for Advanced subscription, Google decided to offer this feature for free to iOS users. Integrating these advanced AI capabilities into Google Search reflects Google’s continued push towards making AI an integral part of everyday user interactions.

Google’s Gemini app has received several updates to make the AI assistant more personal, proactive, and powerful. One notable update is Gemini Live, which allows users to get real-time visual help by pointing their phone at any object and talking it through with the AI. Integrating Imagen 4 and Veo 3 into the Gemini app is a game-changer for creatives.

Gemini enhances Chrome’s browsing experience

Imagen 4 excels in generating high-quality images, while Veo 3 takes video generation to the next level by adding native audio capabilities. Deep Research now allows users to integrate personal data sources with public information, providing a more comprehensive and customized analysis.

Canvas, the creative hub inside Gemini, has received significant updates with the Gemini 2.5 models. These allow users to create interactive infographics, quizzes, and podcast-style audio overviews in 45 languages. Starting tomorrow, Gemini will begin rolling out to Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers on desktop, allowing users to ask the AI to clarify or summarize complex information on any webpage. Gemini is also transforming education with interactive quizzes, allowing users to request practice quizzes on specific topics and receive instant feedback.

Google is launching two subscription plans, Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra, to enhance the Gemini experience. Through a feature called Gemini-in-Chrome, Google’s Chrome browser for macOS and Windows is receiving an infusion of new AI-powered capabilities. This AI browsing assistant is slated for release on May 21 to Google AI Pro users in the US and Chrome Beta, Dev, and Canary users.

Gemini-in-Chrome reorganizes, aggregates, and more sensibly redisplays the data found on one or more browser tabs while embellishing the final output with additional, relevant Gemini-generated information. During a pre-event press briefing, Google director of Chrome product management Charmaine D’Silva provided a live demonstration of the new capabilities. In one example, D’Silva showed how Gemini-in-Chrome could organize a head-to-head feature comparison chart of individual sleeping bags from multiple Chrome tabs.

D’Silva further demonstrated Gemini’s capability to respond to questions about differences between a book and its movie adaptation and the significance of some aspects in the story. According to D’Silva, throughout 2025, Gemini-in-Chrome is expected to evolve into a primary tool for verbally controlling much of Chrome’s browsing experience. Parisa Tabriz, Vice President and General Manager of Google Chrome, stated, “If there are tedious things for you, it’s in our crosshairs.

At a high level, we’re looking to turn those 30-minute tasks into three-click journeys.”

Overall, Gemini-in-Chrome represents a significant leap in AI integration within web browsing, promising to enhance productivity and streamline the user experience.
