iPhone 17 Air leak reveals battery specs

Apple is gearing up to launch the iPhone 17 Air later this year. New details about the device’s weight and battery capacity have emerged. A leaker on the Korean-language Naver blog claims the 6.6-inch iPhone 17 Air weighs around 145 grams.

It also has a battery capacity of 2,800mAh. The leaker says these details come from a “mass production confirmed sample.

The claimed weight is close to the iPhone SE 2’s, at 148 grams, and similar to the iPhone 13 mini’s, at 141 grams.

The battery capacity is near that of the iPhone 12, which has a 2,815mAh battery. However, the leaker suggests Apple may use a high-density battery in the iPhone 17 Air. This could increase the “actual capacity” by 15-20%.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and other reports say the iPhone 17 Air could be the first to use advanced battery tech. Apple supplier TDK is set to ship its new silicon-anode batteries by late June. However, the battery life reports of the iPhone 17 Air have been mixed.

iPhone 17 Air battery details unveiled

The Information’s Wayne Ma says the device may have worse battery life than past iPhones. Internal tests show that only 60% to 70% of users might get a full day of use on one charge.

That’s down from 80% to 90% for other iPhones. To help with this, Apple plans to release a battery case for the iPhone 17 Air. On the other hand, Mark Gurman thinks battery life will be better.

He says this is thanks to hardware and software tweaks. The 5.5 mm-thin device is rumored to use Apple’s efficient C1 modem. It may also lack an Ultra Wide camera, leaving more room for a bigger battery.

The iPhone 17 Air is expected to replace the “Plus” model in Apple’s lineup. It is anticipated to launch in mid-September, Apple’s usual fall release time. More details should emerge as the official release approaches.
