On Tuesday, Notion released an AI-powered email client for Gmail that integrates with the rest of Notion’s workflow management platform. Notion Mail connects to users’ Gmail accounts and utilizes AI to help organize emails, draft responses, schedule meetings, and search across messages. The AI capabilities are free with monthly usage limits and an option for unlimited use through a paid tier.
Notion Mail joins an increasingly crowded field of companies leveraging AI to enhance email inboxes. However, many of the features offered by Notion Mail are also available from other providers like Gmail, which uses similar AI technologies. Jason Ginsberg, the lead for Notion Mail, explained that the goal was not merely to add AI to an existing inbox but to allow users to build a custom inbox organized as they prefer.
The way we built Notion Mail is almost down to the building blocks, or the fundamentals of how email works,” Ginsberg said. “It’s really modular. You can configure Notion Mail in ways we can’t even imagine — all different permutations, so that it actually works the way you prefer.”
Configuring a custom inbox is a central theme in Notion Mail’s design.

For instance, users can separate their inbox into “views” or folders. This feature uses Notion AI to auto-label emails on particular topics and move them into dedicated folders.
Ginsberg highlighted that such capabilities could help organize emails for specific purposes, like tracking job applications or monitoring customer feedback. Moreover, Notion Mail integrates seamlessly with other products, such as the Notion Calendar. This integration allows for time-saving features like checking a user’s calendar and suggesting meeting times during email exchanges.
A lot of innovation around incorporating AI into email has focused mainly on writing emails. We wanted to provide something different by emphasizing a customized inbox,” Ginsberg noted. “Our focus has been on how AI can help organize your email for you, so it no longer feels like a burden.”
Looking ahead, Ginsberg mentioned that Notion aims to offer more product integrations and additional access points to Notion Mail, such as an iOS app.
The team also aspires to provide multiple inboxes in one view in the future.
