Other World Computing (OWC) has announced the launch of the OWC Archive Pro Ethernet. This is a fast and reliable network-based LTO backup and archiving solution. The OWC Archive Pro Ethernet is designed for media and entertainment professionals, government agencies, and businesses of all sizes.
It is made to protect large volumes of critical data. The solution features high-speed data transfers at scale. This is thanks to the built-in ATTO XstreamCORE 8100T technology.
This allows the unit to be placed in a separate room or building. This enhances security, reduces noise, improves host compatibility, and facilitates user collaboration. The OWC Archive Pro Ethernet promises up to 76% cost savings versus HDD-based archiving.
It has a tape shelf life of 30 years compared to seven years for unpowered HDDs. This offers an excellent return on investment (ROI). The OWC Archive Pro Ethernet supports network-based shareable storage access via iSCSI.
It has ATTO XstreamCORE 8100T technology that shares up to four SAS tape drives over a 10Gb iSCSI Ethernet network. The solution is compatible with MacOS. The ATTO Xtend SAN iSCSI Initiator for macOS enables a reliable, secure connection to iSCSI storage.
The OWC Archive Pro Ethernet offers a 501% ROI with up to 76% lower cost vs HDD storage.
owc introduces high-speed archive solution
It has up to 18TB native and up to 45TB compressed storage capacity per tape cartridge.
The solution achieves up to 400MB/s native transfer rate and up to 1000MB/s compressed transfer rates. It has two 10GbE ports to ensure seamless integration into existing infrastructure. This supports demanding media and backup workflows.
The OWC Archive Pro Ethernet includes built-in IBM LTO-7, LTO-8, or LTO-9 drives. It has a simple graphical user interface for managing and configuring network settings. The solution comes with the Hedge Canister Archiving App, a $399 value included for effortless drag-and-drop archiving.
It is LTFS compatible, allowing archiving and retrieving files without proprietary software concerns. The OWC Archive Pro Ethernet supports AES 256-bit encryption and is TAA compliant. This ensures security and compliance.
“The OWC Archive Pro Ethernet has a thorough set of features that will appeal to creative professionals and businesses that need to manage big data,” said Timothy J. Klein, President and CEO of ATTO Technology. “Mac users will appreciate being able to add Xtend SAN iSCSI Initiator software as well.”
Larry O’Connor, Founder and CEO of OWC, added, “The OWC Archive Pro Ethernet combines the reliability and cost savings of LTO tape with the simplicity of network-based access.
By integrating Hedge Canister, we’re making archiving as intuitive as drag-and-drop. With ATTO’s connectivity solutions, we’ve ensured high-speed, low-latency performance for seamless access over a network.”
The OWC Archive Pro Ethernet will be generally available in April 2025 in LTO-7, LTO-8, and LTO-9 configurations. Each solution includes a tape cartridge, cleaning cartridge, Ethernet cable, and Hedge Canister software, with a starting price of $7,799.
