Paul Mescal has revealed he wants to quit the internet due to the overwhelming amount of content about himself that appears in his online feed. In a recent interview on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, the Irish actor expressed his frustration with the algorithms that seem to prioritize stories about him over other topics. “I’ve got to quit the internet,” Mescal said.

“It’s too much of yourself. There’s not enough bakeries, and there’s too much of me.”

Mescal, who gained widespread recognition for his role in the 2020 drama “Normal People,” shared that he feels overwhelmed by the intense media attention he has been receiving. Despite being nominated for Best Actor at the 2023 Academy Awards, he noted the challenges that come with fame.

“But also, you’re smart enough to realize that, like, that’s the gig. You get out in front of the movie, and you do your job,” Mescal said.

“But there’s a certain tax that comes with it.”

In January, Mescal quit his social media accounts to “protect himself” from the constant scrutiny and pressure to post trailers and photoshoots, which made him feel like a “commodity.”

Mescal’s career has been on a meteoric rise, from his critically acclaimed role in “Normal People” to his current starring role in “Gladiator II” alongside Russell Crowe. However, his candid admissions highlight the challenges and pressures that come with fame. Experts suggest that finding accountability partners can help manage phone addiction and cultivate a healthier online presence.

Neha Chaudhary, a child and adolescent psychiatrist, advises individuals to replace content that leaves them feeling worse with content that makes them feel better when consumed. Mescal’s desire for a digital detox reflects a growing trend among celebrities who are stepping away from social media to focus on their mental health and well-being.
