Protesters gathered outside a Tesla showroom in West Palm Beach on Saturday, voicing their opposition to Elon Musk and his role in the Trump administration. The demonstration, organized by the Democratic Progressive Caucus Palm Beach County, was met with a mix of support and tension. During the protest, a black SUV drove into the crowd of over 100 protesters.
No one was injured, but the incident highlighted the growing tension surrounding Musk and his involvement in the federal government. The driver, claiming to be an employee of the Tesla showroom, was arrested at the scene and will be charged with assault, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. The protest was part of a series of demonstrations against Musk, his federal budget cuts, and his Tesla auto company.

Protesters held banners with messages like “Lawless” and “shame,” expressing their concerns about Musk’s influence and the impact of his actions on the government and the American people. A snowbird from Detroit, Carol Smith, participated in the protest, stating, “I’m extremely worried about our democracy. Trump doesn’t follow any rules.
Musk has no official position. He shouldn’t be anywhere near anything.” Her sister Valerie, who chose not to give her last name, added, “I hate the fact that we’ve stopped all foreign aid.
We are such a rich country; we can help ourselves, our citizens, and others. But no, we just want to help the rich.”
The protest followed a week of controversy between Musk and Tesla. Since Musk began budget slashing two months ago, Tesla’s stock has dropped significantly, closing at $248.71 on Friday, 50% off its 52-week high in late December.

Protest clashes at Tesla showroom
Earlier this month, Trump staged a photo opportunity with Musk at the White House to bolster the automaker’s appeal, and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick faced an ethics violation complaint for touting Tesla shares in a TV interview. Musk’s role as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has been met with criticism, as his actions, such as laying off federal employees and shuttering programs, have created friction within the Trump administration. An Economist/YouGov poll showed only 38% of respondents supported the federal employee layoffs pursued by DOGE.
The protest in West Palm Beach is part of a growing movement against Musk and his influence in the federal government. As the controversy continues, it remains to be seen how the Trump administration will respond to the growing opposition and the impact it will have on Musk’s role and Tesla’s future.
