Jack Vallejo, a sophomore at Sheffield High School, has won the E-Sports national championship in his first year on the team. Vallejo secured the title in the game “NCAA25”, which was new to the Sheffield team. The nationwide PlayVS NCAA25 College Football tournament took place over several weeks.

Vallejo competed against teams from Alabama and other states across the country. Despite initial doubts, Vallejo’s confidence grew after his first game. “I didn’t think I was ever going to win nationally when I started but then after I played the first game, I knew I was going to win,” he said.

To prepare for the tournament, Vallejo dedicated around 600 hours to practice. His victory marks the first national championship at Sheffield High School in approximately 17 years. Casey Isbell, Vallejo’s coach, expressed immense pride in the achievement.

“It’s amazing,” Isbell stated. “When you go into coaching or athletics, that’s your dream. That’s your goal—to win a championship.

And the fact that he won is unbelievable.”

The Sheffield Esports team, now in its third year, has about 18 players. Isbell hopes to expand the roster in the future.

Vallejo’s family is proud of his accomplishment and eager to see what he will achieve next. With two more years of high school remaining, Vallejo aims to add two more national championships to his record. The local community is buzzing with excitement over Vallejo’s impressive feat. Dr.

Emma Davis, Sheffield High School Principal, said, “It’s amazing to see one of our students excel on such a significant platform. Jack’s dedication and hard work have truly paid off.”

Esports has been gaining recognition as a legitimate form of organized competition, similar to traditional sports. The Gaming Dogs team at Sheffield High School has seen increased support and participation from students and the community.

Vallejo credits his success to rigorous practice and the support from his teammates and coaches. “It feels incredible to bring home the national title. I couldn’t have done it without my team and the guidance from Coach Howard,” he said.

Vallejo’s triumph is expected to inspire more students to join the esports program at Sheffield High School, fostering a new era of digital competition and camaraderie within the school.
