Sonos has released a significant software update for its Ace wireless headphones. The update introduces performance enhancements and a highly anticipated feature known as TrueCinema mode. TrueCinema mode enhances the virtual surround sound experience.

It adapts the headphones’ spatial audio to the listener’s environment, creating a more immersive soundscape. Similar to Sonos’ TruePlay feature for its speakers, TrueCinema uses a Sonos soundbar to evaluate room acoustics. The headphones’ built-in microphones then determine the listener’s location to optimize the 3D spatial audio.

The update also expands the TV Audio Swap feature. It now supports the Beam and Ray soundbars as well as Android devices. TV Audio Swap lets users send audio from a supported Sonos soundbar to the Ace headphones for private listening.

The update allows two sets of Ace headphones to be used simultaneously with TV Audio Swap. This enables two people to enjoy the audio without disturbing others.

The update improves the headphones’ active noise cancellation (ANC). The enhanced ANC adapts in real-time to various fitting conditions, including hair, glasses, or hats. This minimizes sound leakage and maintains a tight acoustic seal around the ears.

The Ace headphones now support high-resolution audio during phone calls. They also introduce a new feature called SideTone. SideTone adds a bit of the user’s voice to the audio when Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) is activated, making calls sound more natural.

Jason White, head of software at Sonos, emphasized the company’s commitment to delivering meaningful software updates. Our goal has always been to create products that earn their place in people’s lives for years. This Sonos Ace update is an excellent example of that,” White stated.
