Tesla has started rolling out its first software update for the recently refreshed Model Y. The update, version 2025.8.6, brings several new features and enhancements to the electric crossover. One of the key improvements is to the Auto Shift (Beta) feature.

Based on the vehicle’s surroundings, this feature helps shift out of Park or between Drive and Reverse. The update enables Auto Shift to handle three-point turns, whereas previous versions could only manage simple shifts. However, users must still verify that the proposed drive mode matches their intentions before pressing the accelerator pedal.

The 2025.8.6 update also includes the following features:

– The ability to view recent energy usage for up to the last 200 miles on the Consumption page and an option to clear energy history. – Adjusted battery energy estimates that better account for all vehicle usage characteristics and driving history.

– A new Battery Health Test, available in the Controls, Service, and Battery Health menus, measures battery energy retention since the vehicle was new. Some Model Y units from 2022 to 2024 have been updated to use the cabin radar system. This feature is now standard in the new Model Y.

The update also brings security improvements, enhanced voice guidance and spoken directions, and an improved rainbow road feature for Autopilot. Cybertruck owners gain steer-by-wire enhancements and the ability to adjust air suspension ride height via the Tesla mobile app. For Model 3 vehicles, the update automatically switches to Standard Ride & Handling when Autopilot is engaged.

However, this can be disabled through the vehicle controls if desired. The rollout of version 2025.8.6 demonstrates Tesla’s commitment to continuously improving the features and performance of its vehicles through software updates. As the refreshed Model Y reaches more customers, these enhancements will provide an even better driving experience.
