Verizon Fios internet outages have impacted millions of customers on the East Coast, causing significant disruptions in the early hours of Tuesday. A map of user-reported issues shows the affected area spans about 300 miles from Philadelphia to Richmond, Virginia, according to Downdetector, a third-party website that tracks real-time service disruptions. Reports of the outages spiked between midnight and 2 a.m. ET, with the network receiving thousands of complaints during this period.

Ninety percent of these complaints related to internet services, 9 percent were described as “total blackout,” while 1 percent affected TV streaming. “During the incident, we received reports from Washington, Lewes, Baltimore, Silver Spring, Raleigh, Cherry Hill, Maple Shade, Sewell, Philadelphia, Alexandria, Annandale, Arlington, Ashburn, Fairfax, Falls Church, Henrico County, Norfolk and other cities,” Outage.Report noted. A Verizon spokesperson said in an emailed statement at 7 a.m. EST: “A network issue early this morning disrupted service for some Verizon Fios customers in the northeast for a short period of time.

As soon as the issue was identified, our engineering teams quickly restored the service.”

“There is either an outage or network maintenance impacting your area. We don’t have full details just yet. Our apologies for any inconvenience this is causing,” Verizon responded to a user on X asking about the outages.

“We’re trying to get all the information from our network team so we can provide you all an update.”

An X user in Maryland reported an update from Verizon stating that repairs had begun at 10:50 p.m. ET Monday and that service was expected to be restored by 10:58 a.m. ET Tuesday. Along with the swath of the East Coast, an area of southern Kansas also appears to be affected, according to the map. As well as Verizon, other major internet service providers such as AT&T, Cox, and Xfinity also recorded a spike in reported outages, according to Downdetector.

Commenters on the site noted that their internet had been down for hours and criticized Verizon for not yet addressing the issue as of 3 a.m. ET.

Verizon Fios outages impact East Coast

“The @Verizon FiOS network has been down for nearly two hours, and neither they nor @VerizonSupport have posted anything,” one user wrote.

“So. Massive widespread Fios internet outage with no acknowledgment from Verizon. It’s been over an hour.

They don’t seem to be acknowledging anyone. It’s mainly the east coast/DMV area. It’s a little concerning,” another person said.

Verizon is replying to individual users on its Verizon Support X page, asking them to DM for assistance, but the company has not yet made an official statement about the problem. Verizon has experienced several outages in the U.S. in recent months. The current Fios outage means Wi-Fi access is limited for a number of customers across the East Coast.

If you are experiencing an outage, Verizon’s support page is back up and running to provide assistance. This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
