Is App Piracy Higher on the iPad?

Vladimir Roth, developer of Aqua Globs HD for the iPhone and iPad says that 50 percent of iPad users didn’t pay for their download, even though it only cost $1.99. By comparison, he estimates that only 5 percent of iPhone users pirated their copy of the app.

Roth came to his conclusion by comparing the App Stores figures for downloads to the number of users registering their scores on the OpenFeint leaderboards. Still, he’s not too worried about it, because he doesn’t think piracy “necessarily equates to lost sales.”
