Analysts and other experts say that developers are beginning to use cloud-based technologies in three key ways. First, teams are using public cloud services like Amazon EC2 for testing purposes. That approach offers enterprises cost savings and more flexibility compared to using on-premise servers.
Second, developers are building some smaller applications to run in the cloud. “They are dabbling with non-critical applications outside their enterprise, and there is a whole lot of experimentation going on,” said Jay Jarrell, president and CEO of software vendor Objectivity.
Third, developers are beginning to experiment with the APIs and services available through cloud vendors.
