On the first day of its JavaOne conference, Oracle gave the attendees a preview of its plans for versions 8 and 9 of Java. Java 8, due for release in 2012, will offer greater modularization through Project Jigsaw and Lambda expressions through Project Lambda. Java 9 may include a self-tuning Java Virtual Machine, improved native integration, and increased memory support for “big data” processing, but the feature list isn’t set in stone yet.
Oracle also released JavaFX 2.0, an update to the company’s rich applications development platform that competes with Flash and Silverlight.
