App Store Hits 25 Billion Downloads

On Saturday, Apple’s App Store reached a major milestone: 25 billion app downloads. To commemorate the event, the company gave a $10,000 iTunes gift card to Chunli Fu, of Qingdao, China, who made the 25 billionth download.

Observers note that it’s fitting that the milestone download came from China, a very important market for Apple and the focus of recent controversies surrounding the company’s supply chain. It’s also appropriate that the winner downloaded a free app — a Disney puzzle game called Where’s My Water? — because the freemium model has become very important for the mobile development industry.
