Apple Buys HTML5 Development Firm Particle

Apple has reportedly purchased Particle, a San Francisco-based Web app development firm, for an undisclosed sum. Several of the company’s employees stayed on to work for Apple as “creative technologists” and “user interface engineers,” lending the appearance that this was an “aqui-hire.”

Particle specialized in HTML5 app development. Its clients included Google, Motorola, Amazon, Yahoo, Sony, and Apple. The company also made some headlines thanks to a celebrity investor–Justin Timberlake.
