The growing popularity of Docker’s containerization technology is making for strange bedfellows, as Microsoft announced today that its Azure cloud computing service now supports Google’s Kubernetes tool for managing Docker containers. The Microsoft tool includes a unique Visualizer that makes it “much easier to experiment with and learn Kubernetes on Azure.”
Much of the development for Azure Kubernetes support was done by Microsoft Open Technologies, Microsoft’s open source arm, and the Visualizer arose out of Microsoft’s company-wide hackathon in July.
Interestingly, this announcement means that enterprises can use the same tools to manage containers on both Azure and Google Compute Engine.
