Antitrust regulators with China’s State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC) have stepped up their investigation of Microsoft, giving the company twenty days to respond to questions about Windows and Office. Specifically, China is concerned about Microsoft’s use of verification codes to combat piracy. The regulators say the codes “may have violated China’s anti-monopoly law.”
Microsoft issued a statement which said it is “serious about complying with China’s laws and committed to addressing SAIC’s questions and concerns.”
Some critics allege that China is using the anti-monopoly law to unfairly target foreign companies.
