CoreOS Releases Rocket, a Competitor for Docker

Linux distribution provider CoreOS has announced that it is developing its own container technology called Rocket that will compete with Docker. It has released an initial prototype on GitHub and is soliciting feedback.

CoreOS claims that Docker has not remained true to its original purposes in developing a standard container. “We still believe in the original premise of containers that Docker introduced, so we are doing something about it,” the company states in its announcement. “While we are at it, we are cleaning up and fixing a few things that we?d like to see in a production ready container.”

However, “CoreOS’s Rocket will have an uphill battle to start with.” NetworkWorld points out. “Docker already has partnerships with many big tech vendors, from Red Hat to Google, Amazon, VMware and Microsoft.”
