Engine Yard to Support Multiple IaaS Providers

Platform as a service provider (PaaS) Engine Yard has announced that it is updating its architecture to allow more flexibility. It plans to enable users to choose among various cloud infrastructure providers and to be able to move from one to another easily. “The goal is to give people options and let them decide where to run their applications,” said Engine Yard’s Bill Platt. “By combining different technologies it allows developers to have choices so they can be successful.”

For now, Engine Yard supports two cloud computing vendors–Amazon Web Services and Verizon’s Terremark platform. Over time, it plans to add many more infrastructure as a service (IaaS) providers, as well as supporting private clouds.
