Cloud development platform Google App Engine experienced widespread downtime on Friday. At the time of writing, it wasn’t clear what was behind the outage at the popular platform as a service. Google characterized it as an “anomaly,” and its service status page reported, “App Engine is currently experiencing serving issues. The team is actively working on restoring the service to full strength.”
Several other Google tools and sites also went down around the same time, including the Google Developers domain and the Android Developers domain. YouTube was also experiencing some difficulties. Elsewhere on the Web, Tumblr and Dropbox reported downtime as well. At the same time, the Internet Traffic Report Website graphs showed a steep dropoff in Internet traffic and a sharp increase in packet loss.
