IBM Unites SoftLayer and Bluemix

IBM has merged its two primary cloud computing services. The SoftLayer infrastructure cloud has been absorbed into its Bluemix cloud development service. Customers can now access both services through a single sign-on. “They will also have a single payment method and pay for those services from a consolidated invoice,” said Quincy Allen, chief marketing officer and director of ecosystem development for IBM Cloud. “The SoftLayer brand will continue to power the new Bluemix platform. What is new is that we now added these infrastructure capabilities to Bluemix in a more seamless way.”

In 2013, IBM bought SoftLayer for $2 billion, and it used SoftLayer infrastructure to build its Bluemix platform as a service.

IBM has 48 cloud computing data centers around the world.
