The Linux Foundation is spearheading a new open source project called Hyperledger which aims to bring blockchain technology to the enterprise. Blockchain is the distributed record-keeping technology used by Bitcoin to track currency transactions. Hyperledger could eventually help organizations track a wide variety of transactions.
Speaking about Hyperledger, Jim Zemlin, executive director at the Linux Foundation, said, “This project has the potential to become a foundational technology — one that is used in a wide variety of applications across all major industries.” Early supporters of the project include ANZ Bank, Cisco, Fujitsu, IC3, IBM, Intel, London Stock Exchange Group, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, VMware, and Wells Fargo, among others.
