Microsoft Azure Revenue Tops $1 Billion

According to Microsoft CFO Curt Anderson, the firm’s Azure cloud computing service has brought in $1 billion in revenue for the company in the past twelve months. That includes both Azure subscriptions and related software.

Microsoft’s Takeshi Numoto added that Azure subscriptions are up 48 percent in the last six months, and the business unit has experienced 10 percent sales growth for nine quarters in a row.

Forrester Research analyst James Staten says that currently Azure has about 20 percent of the enterprise cloud computing market, compared to 71 percent for Amazon Web Services. “I expect them to double annually from here,” Staten said. “Microsoft probably has more net new growth opportunity sitting in front of them than probably anyone in the market.”
