A recent survey conducted by Sand Hill Publishing revealed some surprising facts about enterprise Hadoop use. While Hadoop is usually mentioned in the same breath as big data analytics, few companies are actually using it that way. Only 8.9 percent of those surveyed said they are currently using Hadoop for advanced analytics—although 24.4 percent plan to do so in the future.
So how are companies using Hadoop? The biggest percentage—25.2 percent—use it for data preparation. Another 17.8 percent say they use it for business intelligence, and 17.0 cite basic analytics.
Companies say a lack of skills and talent is hampering their Hadoop adoption.
