Oracle is banking on its platform as a service (PaaS) offerings as a way to compete with Amazon in the cloud computing space. The company is rolling our 24 new PaaS packages for mobile development, enterprise application development, business analytics, data management, data integration and content and collaboration.
Oracle Executive Chairman of the Board Larry Ellison didn’t shy away from comparisons with Amazon in the announcement. “Our new Archive Storage service goes head-to-head with Amazon Glacier, and it’s one-tenth their price,” he said. He added that 19 of the top 20 software as a service vendors run on Oracle Cloud Platform.
