In its “IT Industry Outlook 2013,” CompTIA forecasts that the IT industry will see job growth through 2020, with systems software developers experiencing the highest growth of all. In fact, the firm believes systems software development jobs will climb from 387,050 to 510,906, a 32 percent increase. By comparison, IT jobs in general will grow about 22 percent over the same time period.
The report also held good news for enterprise application development pros. Application development jobs will grow from 539,880 currently to 691,046 in 2020, a 28 percent increase.
The company believes programmer positions will grow at a lower rate—12percent over the next seven years.
